Ah Kee Beef Noodle at Choa Chu Kang

FEBRUARY 11, 2022

Overall quite tasty beef noodles, with tender beef and brisket, bouncy beef balls, gelatinous tendons, and savoury and light sauce. Nothing I will travel specially for, but perhaps that’s because beef noodles is not my favourite.

Penang Home Made Beef Ball – Beef Noodles at Beauty World Centre

JANUARY 19, 2022

The beef was actually quite good with a good beefy flavour and chewiness without being tough. The tendon was really good, soft and qq like jelly. The soup though was somewhat bland and “soapy”, although the kway teow was nicely soft and slippery.

Yuan Authentic Thai Stewed Beef Noodle at Ghim Moh

SEPTEMBER 30, 2020

The Thai beef noodles stock tasted quite authentic, like the stock of the boat noodles in Thailand, sweet, savoury and herby. The kway teow was smooth and slippery. The beef tendons was quite qq and almost creamy, the beef balls bouncy, and the stewed beef tender. All had a good beefy but not overwhelming flavour. Only the beef slices fell short – sinewy and tough to chew. Overall quite good.

难得一面(上海) Beef Noodles at Shanghai

NOVEMBER 6, 2019

Serviceable beef noodles, although in a beautiful dining room with a flock of glass birds hanging overhead. The soup was lightly flavoured, and beef short ribs were stewed well, although slightly tough. It seems the Shanghainese like a bit of texture and bite in their food, while we Singaporeans like it soft.

Hock Lam Street Popular Beef Kway Teow at Old Airport Road

SEPTEMBER 25, 2019

Nice beef kway teow. The sauce and the soup had a good subtle beefy and herbal flavour. The sliced beef and beef balls were fresh, only slightly beefy, and had no gaminess at all. The kway teow was soft and soaked up the sauce nicely, with the ground peanuts and salted vegetables providing a nice counterpoint in flavour and texture.

Kheng Fatt Hainanese Beef Noodles at Golden Mile

AUGUST 11, 2019

The beef noodles was fairly light, with the noodles bouncy, the gravy just the right balance of beefiness and lightness, the beef slices tender and marinated lightly, and the beef balls a good balance of bounciness and softness. You could taste a fresh light beefy flavour in both the beef slices and beef balls. The whole bowl was a restrained bowl that highlighted the goodness of the beef and 粉. The addition of the grated peanuts added another layer of texture and flavour. The chilli was also worth mentioning, piquant and sour, providing the right kick to the beef.

Gubak Kia – Beef Noodles at Buona Vista

AUGUST 7, 2019

A very light beef kway teow fragrant with sesame oil. The beef was tender and well marinated and flavoured. It was all good.

I had gone back later to try the beef short ribs kway teow. Again, the kway teow was solid, particularly smooth and rich with the onsen egg. The beef short rib though didn’t seem to go so well with the kway teow, although by itself it was pan-fried well with medium doneness, some char and beefy flavour.
