Mansor D’Cafe – Nasi Padang at Orchard

DECEMBER 30, 2020

Recommended by CNA Lifestyle. This was like a hidden treasure on the top floor of Far East Plaza.

The sambal goreng was really good – creamy and lemak, sweet and savoury, moist and luscious with the tofu, tempeh and long beans. The beef rendang was tender and moist yet having some bite, drenched in a darker brown sauce that was meatier and nuttier in flavour.

The ayam goreng or fried chicken was juicy inside, red and crispy outside, and full of the savoury salty flavours of what seemed like rempah. The sambal was pure chilli padi, fiercely red and really spicy – I didn’t dare to take anything more than a small drop. Very good nasi padang.

Dilys Creation – Nasi Padang at Fusionopolis

SEPTEMBER 18, 2020

Recommended by The Straits Times Cheap & Good. The beef rendang was tender, lemak and shiok. The fried chicken was fragrant, lady’s fingers spicy and tasty, and omelette savoury. Nice and serviceable nasi padang. This took over the space of Revolution Coffee, which served Chef Shen’s Nasi Lemak – I think this space needed a canteen more than a cafe, and this was quite a good canteen.

The rendang was fragrant, rich and layered. The wagyu beef was a bit tough and fibrous, but not bad. The blue pea rice was also interesting, with a slight fragrance, and paired well with the rendang sauce.

The latte was very good, with layered coffee flavours reminiscent of berries – woody and slightly astringent.

Nasi Ambeng Nenek Leng – Nasi Padang at Golden Mile

DECEMBER 23, 2019

Very nice nasi ambeng or nasi padang. The beef rendang was soft and tender and had absorbed much of the gravy, which was lemak, rich and nicely complex in flavour. The chicken drumstick was nicely marinated, savoury, slight crispy outside and tender inside. The omelette and bergedil were very tasty too. Finally, the curry packed a good and lemak punch.
