年根億 Nian Kern Yee – Mee Siam at Bedok North Street 3
DECEMBER 29, 2023
I was really first attracted by the queue here. The old school Chinese mee siam was soft and the sauce milky, lemak and limey, although only slightly tangy and havibg a but less depth. The tau pok was slightly firm and soaked up the sauce nicely. Overall not bad and interesting.

Shi Xian – Mee Siam at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10

Recommended by Miss Tam Chiak. The mee siam was slightly nutty, sour, almost light and citrusy, with slight thickness and some fragrance from the crispy tau pok shreds. Something different and bit atypical, with the flavour growing on you.

Hello Western – Mee Siam at Bukit Batok East Avenue 3
OCTOBER 25, 2023
The mee siam sauce was really thick, creamy and piquant, and the bee hoon soft yet with bite. Not bad at all, from what looks like a western food stall.

Delicious Mee Siam, Mee Rebus, Lontong at Tanjong Pagar
SEPTEMBER 8, 2023
The bee hoon was cooked nicely till soft, and the sauce was almost sweet, nutty and creamy, with a nice contrasting sourness. There was small bits of tau pok, not enough to provide bite, but enough to vary the texture and mouthfeel. Not bad.

Recommended by Johor Kaki. Flavourful food that came in big portions, with the mee siam hot and spicy with a sour tinge, the nasi lemak moist and fragrant, and the chicken chop crispy and flavourful. I really like the kueh, which were well made and fresh.

Crazy Nana – Mee Siam & Goreng Pisang at Fusionopolis Buona Vista
JULY 15, 2022
Recommended by 8 Days. The dry mee siam with egg was nice – slightly tangy and pretty moist and tasty with the savoury sambal belachan featuring large ikan bilis. A bit more expensive though at $5.90, with just fried egg, peanuts and ikan bilis. The signature pisang had a light and crispy batter, but was starchy and a bit firmer and less sweet inside, unlike the goreng pisang I am used to. The sweet soy sauce was a nice flavour booster though.

96 Kwai Luck Cooked Food – Mee Siam at Ang Mo Kio
APRIL 25, 2021
Recommended by Johor Kaki – this was apparently called mee siam kuah, by a heritage hawker seriously focused on only one dish. This was a layered and very balanced, comfortable and comforting mee siam, slightly sour and tangy, thick, unami and savoury from the tau cheo and hae bi, and sweet and slightly lemak from the coconut milk. I didn’t need to add the chilli or calamansi. The sauce was so nice that I could drink it straight up. There was only a slight and intermittent queue here.
A side note – 这真是一个富有生活气息的市场。

Quite an ordinary dry mee siam I must say, for I think $14 before service charge.

A nice breezy cafe set in a community club. The mee siam possessed a good balance. It was sour, piquant, slightly rich and lemak and mildly refreshing. The kopi was a good standard cup. Nice overall.

Jia Xiang – Mee Siam at Redhill
AUGUST 13, 2019
This stall had been featured by The Straits Times in 2013. The mee siam gravy, which I think is the key to its tastiness, was the right balance of piquant, lemak and spicy. It almost felt like an East Malaysian laksa gravy, just more sour. This also came nicely and generously with a hard-boiled egg, fried tau gwa, tau pok and crispy fried flour bits. The sambal chilli was also fragrant with dried shrimp and belachan. Very good stuff.
