MYO restobar at Robinson Road Shenton Way

MARCH 24, 2024

Recommended by The Straits Times, and worth coming back. The Kia Hiang Claypot Spring Chicken was heavenly – tender and flavourful with layered and savourtly sauce. The other signature – Crispy Yam Bags with Scallops – was also done very well, fresh with a delightful textural contrast. Everything else was done really nicely. Good Stuff.

Milkfish at Millenia Walk

JUN 10, 2020

Recommended by Johor Kaki. Delightful tomatoes marinated in sour plum juice started off the meal. The milkfish soup was milky, rich and rounded, and came with fresh and sweet fish, prawn, clams and minced pork patty. The soup paired nicely with the mee sua, and the grilled milkfish belly was really nice, lightly sweet-savoury and tender with fatty meat and crispy skin. Only the deep fried prawn roll was typical.

Zhang Ji Shanghai La Mian Xiao Long Bao at Alexandra Village

JUN 9, 2022

排了挺长的队。担担面的面条软硬适中而有嚼劲。 酱料微辣带花生酱香,但有一点太多。肉末也很香,增加了面的整体香味。小笼包也挺细致的。汤带甜,肉香嫩,皮够薄。好吃。

Enjoy Eating House and Bar at Stevens Road Newton

JUN 5, 2022

Recommended by ieatishootipost. Quite a superb meal. The Chef Joel’s mee kia 2.0 had a solid truffle fragrance and came with a good flavour and texture. The grandma’s te kah bee hoon was hearty and savoury, and full of wok hei and umami. The Hainanese chicken satay was smoky, sweet and tender, with a balanced flavour. The ugly cabbage in fish sauce was crunchy and smoky and savoury with fish sauce at the same time – shiok. The sautéed seafood otah was rich and lemak, with generous ingredients. The only letdowns were the overly fatty BBQ pork cheek, and the bland and LPG tasting crab meat omelette.

Fortune Court – Chinese Cantonese at Pagoda Street Chinatown

MAY 15, 2022

Opened by a group of ex-Peony staff and chef, and recommended by 8 Days. Really quite good. We really enjoyed the crispy and savoury-sweet fried mini squid, the moreish black pepper smoked duck and golden pumpkin fries, the sweet, tangy and crunchy lychee sweet & sour pork, and the very fresh and bouncy scallop with broccoli.

The signature dishes recommended by 8 Days was ok, but perhaps found less favour. The egg white conpoy with crab meat was slightly bland in terms of flavour, the three cup beef was tender and beefy but had an overwhelming basil flavour, and the XO lobster ee fu noodles was simply very pricey at $42.80, with the ee fu noodles not that flavourful and the lobster slightly tough.

Overall still a very good restaurant, but the signature dishes were perhaps overly hyped up for us.

Chef Chik – Cantonese at Haig Road

MAY 12, 2022

Recommended by ieatishootipost and various other food bloggers. Serious restaurant quality food at hawker prices, although the price has increased since I read the review on this, as with everything else. The black fungus steamed chicken with a bowl of rice was $13.70; the savoury light soy sauce was very refined, flavourful and moreish, while the chicken and black fungus were cooked just right, with the chicken tender and moist and the black fungus crisp and slightly soft.

BBQ Box – Chinese Skewers at Cheong Chin Nam Beauty World

MARCH 29, 2022

Serviceable, but very similar flavour profiles of cumin and chilli throughout which covered the flavours of the ingredients, and resulted in flavour fatigue. I enjoyed the mushrooms and the potatoes. Beef and mutton were quite chewy. Good for when you miss Chinese skewers like me.
