Ah Liang Ipoh Hor Fun at Market Street Raffles Place

SEPTEMBER 5, 2023

Recommended by Johor Kaki. The hor fun was really soft and smooth and the sauce lightly savoury, herby and fragrant of mushroom and oyster sauce. The fish dumplings were supple, crispy outside and flavourful and qq with the fish and meat filling inside. Quite nice, which is the reason for the constant but fast-moving queue.

Lao Li Da Pai Dang – Hor Fun at Simpang Bedok

JULY 31, 2023

Recommended by 8 Days. The Golden Hor fun had good wok hei, and the sauce was silky smooth and eggy, with golden streaks of egg yolk running across the dish. It was served with crisp cabbage, chye sim, fishcakes, 2 big springy prawns and sliced pork. Nice and comforting dish.

Restoran Thean Chun – Hor Fun at Ipoh Malaysia

JUNE 13, 2023

The white coffee was smooth and tasted like mocha. The hor fun was really silky and the broth prawny and savoury – as good as I remembered it to be. The pudding was eggy and sweet, and tasted somehow a bit medicinal. The taugeh was so so, with a bit of a raw flavour.

Ipoh Tuck Kee Ancient Taste – Hor Fun at Ipoh Malaysia

JUNE 12, 2023

I only realised that this was the wrong Tuck Kee after finishing the meal. But the meal was not bad. The taugeh was plump, juicy and fresh, hor fun smooth and savoury with wok hei, and KL style char siew very nice, tender, caramelised and sticky. The separate meatball soup was serviceable, with the meatballs bouncy and floury.

Lucky Chicken Rice – Chicken Hor Fun at Lucky Plaza Orchard Road

DECEMBER 30, 2022

Quite crowded even at 10:30am at a corner of Lucky Plaza. The hor fun was really smooth and slippery, and came with a really mushroomy savoury sauce and fragrant fried shallots. I could polish off just the hor fun itself. The chicken was decent – slightly tough and requiring the chilli to lift its flavours.

Ipoh Tuck Kee Son – Hor Fun at Katong Shopping Centre

OCTOBER 9, 2022

Massive amount of web recommendations, and for good reason. They apparently drew massive queues when they first opened up at Foch Road, being famous for their Moonlight Hor Fun and Wah Dan Hor.

The small portion of the Moonlight Hor Fun was seriously large. The hor fun glistened, and you could smell the wok hei as soon as you opened the packet. This was seriously oily and moist, slightly more sweet than savoury, and seriously 重口味 from the sweet soy sauce. You could literally burp wok hei after eating this. Very nice, with nice accompanying fried pork, that was really sweet rather than spicy.

Sun Sheng – Hor Fun at Chinatown

SEPTEMBER 13, 2022

Recommended by Johor Kaki, supposedly with solid smoky wok hei. This was a really old school zhi char stall. The well seared hor fun was springy and indeed smoky and toasty, having a slightly savoury light soy sauce flavour, but with slightly chewy and somewhat unmarinated beef slices.
