晟合元卤肉饭 SHY Kitchen – Taiwanese Rice Bowl at Tanjong Pagar Plaza

The Taiwanese Lu Rou Fan had a conplex and layered flavour, and melt in the mouth pork. Really not bad new stall.

The braised pork was quite flavourful with various spices, and nicely minced with a balanced mix of fatty and lean meat, but was a bit too wet.

Want Food Taiwanese Delights at South Bridge Road Chinatown
MAY 4, 2023
The minced braised pork was really dark and savoury, full of a strong and complex soy sauce and herbal flavours, comprising a good balance of lean and fatty pork. The mee sua was soft, gooey, almost totally disintegrated and seriously garlicky, with plump fresh oysters. Nice stuff.

Breakfast Hola – Taiwanese at South Bridge Road Chinatown

Recommended by Tan Hsueh Yun of The Straits Times. The Spicy Cai Poh Egg Crepe Roll was eggy, soft and crispy at the edges, paired with the saltiness and crunchiness of the chai poh. The Taiwanese Cold Noodles were refreshing and chewy, with crispy cucumber, and a creamy and rich sesame sauce. Nice.

Wen Li Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice Pig Intestine Mee Sua at Boon Lay Place
DECEMBER 29, 2022
A branch of the Golden Mile stall. The minced pork was mostly lean with some fatty bits within. The taste profile was a strong soy sauce savouriness with some sweetness and hints of other spices. Quite tasty and 下饭. With the juices from the minced meat coating the rice, I almost finished the rice even though I was full.

NiuNiu Tea & DuDu Rice – Taiwanese at Whampoa Drive
SEPTEMBER 30, 2022
Recommended by 8 Days, with some celebrity clientele. The mee sua was nice and silky, coming in a balanced meaty and slightly garlicky stock with red shallots floating around. The oysters in the oyster mee sua were plump and fresh.
The braised pork rice was even better. The pork came in small chunks and strips, and there was a good balance of melt-in-the-mouth fatty pork, and tender lean pork. The braising sauce was really fragrant from a base of minced red shallots, spring onions and garlic, and somehow and a slight herbal taste was cinnamon or something like that.
Very nice.

True Breakfast – Taiwanese at Cuppage Plaza Orchard
AUGUST 10, 2022
Recommended by many, and apparently seeing one to one and a half hour queues just a couple of months ago. The taste was 中规中矩. I wouldn’t queue quite so long for this. I apparently got the last bowl of braised pork rice, which had a balanced savoury flavour with some fatty bits and some chewy bits of pork. The pork floss and eggs omelette was eggy and soft, going nicely with the sweet and airy pork floss, and enhanced by the sweet 酱油膏. Quite nice.

Isshin Machi – Taiwanese at Greenwood Avenue Bukit Timah
FEBRUARY 17, 2022
The braised meat and sauce had a very direct soy sauce savoury flavour, without any hint of other layers of flavours. The preserved vegetables were quite tasteless. The braised egg was good though, braised thoroughly all the way through. The tempura was quite normal though, like a denser, bouncier and more peppery fishcake.
