新興食家 Sun Hing Restaurant – Dim Sum at Sai Wan Hong Kong

MAY 21, 2023

Basic dim sum, done quite well with fresh ingredients. The Siu Mai was springy and had little pops of roe, and the Ma Lai Gao was spongy and soft with a good brown sugar flavour. Har Gao had fresh springy prawns, and Cheong Fun was smooth and savoury.

MaMa Dim Sum at Yuhua Jurong East Avenue 1

NOVEMBER 21, 2022

Recommended by 8 Days. The siew mai bouncy and fresh, with good fresh pork and goji berry flavour. The char siew bao was fluffy outside and sweet and flavourful inside. The spring roll was shatteringly crispy outside, and moist and chockful of various ingredients inside. The carrot cake was soft and had a good radish flavour. Out of all these, the lo mai gai or glutinous rice was a bit ordinary. Small menus, but almost all of restaurant quality.

Millennium Glutinous Rice at Chinatown

JUNE 24, 2021

A fresh, lightly savoury and clean-tasting glutinous rice, made savoury with boiled peanuts and fragrant shallots and shallot oil. Really comforting, reminding me of the mobile vendor who sold this with bee hoon at Commonwealth Close, where I grew up. The rice was just moderately sticky, came apart well and offered slight chewiness. The shallots were a bit burnt though, with a small bit tasting slightly bitter. Serious one man show here, offering a heritage food.
