La Cafe Vie5 – Vietnamese at Upper Paya Lebar

SEPTEMBER 23, 2022

Recommended by The Straits Times, and quite crowded for such a secluded locale. The Haiphong or HP Prawn Noodle Soup was nicely subtle, and lightly sweet and umami with prawn flavour. It came with both large prawns and prawn bits, pork slices, as well as strips of mushrooms and black fungus which added to the texture of the noodles. There was apparently laksa leaves within too, although I struggled to isolate the taste profile.

The Crab Rolls were crispy and fat with crab meat, minced pork, glass noodles, black fungus, lettuce, bean sprouts and carrot strips, but really needed the sweet fish suave to lift its flavours.

The Egg-Whisked Coffee was custardy sweet, fluffy and foamy at the top egg foam layer, and slightly thin and bitter at the coffee layer. Overall good food and drinks.
